It is made clear by the author that this is not a book intended for the absolute neophyte. One should be competent with the basic tools and have experience in woodworking before referring to this volume. While almost exclusively practical in its discussion, there is a limited amount of theory also presented. The ideal use case for this book would likely be as a reference guide for a practicing carpenter.
The book reads as an encyclopedia, replete with a detailed index. Divided into topics such as "Hand Tools and Appliances", "Joints", "Doors and Door Frames", "Partitions and Screens", and many more, the reader need only flip to the section of interest to discover a wealth of information and step by step instructions for completing many tasks. Detailed illustrations are included throughout, and have fortunately been captured in a high level of detail in this republication.
In Cassell"s Carpentry and Joinery, Hasluck has created a definitive guide to woodworking. Any woodworker would be fortunate to include this tremendous publication in their library.
