Excerpt from The University Hymn Book
The endeavour of those who compiled this Hymn Book has been to select hymns that arc representative of the Christian faith, catholic in spirit and likely to appeal to the generous youth of the University and Colleges. Of the tunes, most have approved themselves by wide and varied use, and no pains have been spared to avoid both the commonplace and the severe, whether in old or new.
The members of the committee wish to acknowledge their great indebtedness to Professor W. S. Milner of University College, Toronto, and the Rev. Alexander MacMillan, Toronto, on whom has fallen almost the entire burden of preparing the book. They desire also to make mention of the valuable service rendered by Mr. Ernest MacMillan, Mus. Bac. (Oxon.), F. R. C. O., who has revised all the music and contributed several original tunes.
