Jonathan Jinks is just an innocent, slightly confused teenager, who doesn"t know what career to follow following the death of his police detective father, while on duty. Suddenly, he finds himself at the centre of a crime he had never heard of - dognapping - and, even worse, for a time is accused of irresponsibly losing the dog he was walking in the woods. To make amends, he embarks on a mission to find the lost Alsatian, Max, but soon discovers that this is not the only dog to have gone missing locally. As he pieces together the mysteries that surround the disappearance of local pets, he begins to link the low profile cases to the theft of a very high profile dog, which happened to be wearing a pretty expensive jewelled dog collar. He makes contact with the actress owner and tries to prove to the local police that there is a connection. When they show a lack of interest, he puts together his own team and tries to go it alone, with their help. Continuously, he sees images in his head and has strong gut-feel guesses. At times he barks up the wrong tree entirely, but at others ... The case is not easy and occasionally dangerous, being a big ask for an 18-year-old.
