Like with all other Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books, Riordan manages to pull the reader into a universe that's entirely his, while still following rules of others, the Romans and the Greeks. It takes skill to write like that, and to remember every rule, and Riordan has the necessary skill. He's capable of making a story that's entirely his own, with myths that already exists.
