The girl grew up in a large family in the early 1970s, when sexual abuse was a well-kept secret and was not spoken about publicly. She volunteers as a counselor for abused women and children. It was a heartbreaking experience to write this book, because trying to come up with the words that I needed to do so, knowing it would wake up old wounds for some was difficult.
