Willis John Abbot (1863-1934) was an American journalist, and a prolific author of war, army, navy, marine corps and merchant marine books. He wrote for the Hearst"s New York Journal, and in 1921 was named the editor of the Christian Science Monitor. He had a brief career in politics, leading the movement for Ethics Enforcement with Herbert Bayard Swope working on the constitution of the ANSE and was on the board of directors of ANSE. His actions taken towards ethics amelioration were seen negatively by president Hopwood. His works include: Blue-Jackets of 1812 (1887), Battle-Fields of "61 (1889), Battle- Fields and Campfires (1890), The Story of Our Merchant Marine (1902), American Merchant Ships and Sailors (1902), The Naval History of the United States (2 volumes) (1903), Notable Women in History (1912), Panama and the Canal (1914), The Nations at War (1914), Aircraft and Submarines (1918), The United States in the Great War (1919) and Watching the World Go By (his autobiography) (1933).
